Video Shoot – Harry’s Saint Mary’s Story: Be Connected

As an International Student-Athlete, traveling away from home to pursue an education and athletics can be tough. With the right support, we can excel. I always promote the importance of family and supporting one another’s dreams. Through various HarryCares Initiatives, I can share my story and my experiences to benefit others. There will always be a struggle, but when you and others believe in yourself, you can achieve anything.

SMU Recruitment Campaign Ambassador

November 1st, 2013.

Saint Mary’s University (SMU) Recrutment Campaign: played my role as a SMU Ambassador for future students. Worked with JourneyMan Film Industry and Trampoline Branding Canada in order to ensure that this project was a success. The University has a lot of resource that current and prospective future students can benefit from and I am fortunate to have been an ambassador and positive example for all.

Be Supported. Be Influential. Be Connected. Be Your Potential.

SMU International Students’ Orientation Week

September 4th, 2013

HARRYCARES moment: During the International Students’ Orientation Week.

Giving those positive vibes, as usual, to new students and paving ways for others… As an International Student-Athlete, I have many lessons learned that I pass on to others so that they can be prepared as they come to face similar lessons.  #HarryCares words of the day: “Learn how to prioritize; if I can do it, you can, YES YOU CAN.”  #OneUniversityOneWorld

SMU Huskies: Inspiring Athletes Panel

April 2nd, 2013.

INSPIRING ATHLETES PANEL: On a sunny Tuesday afternoon; four Student-Athletes (Including myself)  and two staffs of  Saint Mary’s University left for Dartmouth High for an Inspiring Athletes Event. This event started at 1:50pm and ran uptil 3:10pm. The Student-Athletes gave a brief orientation of what to expect in the University and also, possible ways of overcoming adversities or obstacles that are inevitable as Student-Athletes. After the brief presentation from the Saint Mary’s staffs and athletes, the panel was open for discussions. We posed questions to the students and they did the same. It was a very memorable event for us all as we shared our experiences by telling our personal stories to the students and staffs of Dartmouth High. I am fortunate to represent my family, friends and Saint Mary’s University as an inspiring leader and athlete at this event and I am appreciative of the continuous and lasting relationship I have developed with the Halifax and Dartmouth community.

SMU Huskies and the Prospect Bulls

November 20th, 2012

On Tuesday November 20th Head Coach Jonah Taussig , Kadeem Scott, Riley Halpin and I mentored Mini and Bantam Boys at the Home of the Prospect Bulls. It was a great opportunity for us all; being able share our experiences both as players and coaches, and also learning from these kids who came to work hard this evening. I am thankful of the opportunity and also appreciative for the time the parents of those kids gave in order to ensure that their kids benefit from us all. They also had the opportunity to watch our Home Opener basketball game and with the help of Saint Mary’s University’s Department of Athletics and Recreation, we were able to gear them up with some SMU Huskies apparel. Below is a response via email  from the parents of Royce.

“Coach Taussig,

On Saturday Nov. 3 2012 three young men from your basketball team, namely Migual, Jerome, and Harry. Spent the day with our son Royce they took him out to dinner, then they took him to the football game followed by the basketball game. Royce Jr. said “he had an amazing day’”the t it meant a lot to Royce that these three young men in college took the time to spend the day with him. They met Royce while he was attending Caladonia Jr. high School on a trip to Saint Mary’s. They continued to keep in touch, my wife and I met Migual, and Jerome they were very pleasant. They stressed to Royce the importance of a good education my wife and I are grateful to these young men.

I also reunited with two youths living with Autism that I worked with during this summer through my Co-op work term. Dylan and Brandon were accompanied by their mother, Michelle and were live at tonights basketball game. They were loud and screamed my name at the top of their voices during in game action. It was a great feeling knowing that they were present and also,  I am appreciative of the lasting relationship we have established.

Introduction to Basketball Basics: Armbrae Pre-School

Friday June 8, 2012

A visit to Armbrae Pre-School presentation with Head Coach of the Saint Mary’s Huskies Basketball to educate and demonstrate to pre-school students thee “Introduction to Basketball Basics.” A fun morning with the kids and you learn how appreciative these kids are  — especially when they have someone to look up to. They learn so quickly!

Its never too early to introduce the game of basketball to our youth. Sports, physical activity, and play all have a positive impact on kids. The game of basketball is more than just a game: it’s physically, mentally, and emotionally rewarding. Every child deserves the opportunity to experience play, to be a kid, and to learn and grow through sport.

It feels great to share my passion with kids. They get to have fun and build on lessons learned in school — like team-work and fair play.”   -Harry Ezenibe
