HarryCares  – Founded by Harry Onochie Ezenibe.

The HarryCares initially gained notice in 2008 while he was in Nigeria participating in other outreach programs. Harry’s positive influence on youth was not only admirable, it was vastly accepted as he gained followers who cheered him on as he wrote his own path.

The Idea of HarryCares was inspired by the renowned NBACares program. Harry was a Camp participant in the 2005/2006 NBA BASKETBALL WITHOUT BORDERS AFRICA  (http://www.nba.com/bwb/africa2005_participants.html    http://www.nba.com/bwb/participants_africa2006.html)  and then continued his basketball exchange program experiences through France, Serbia, Italy, and Canada. Throughout his exposure as a young elite athlete, he felt the need for a cause that would give back by providing a better opportunity to others like himself because through sport one’s life can truly be enriched.

Harry was a Peer Health Educator and was part of a basketball Outreach Program with the Adolescent Health and Information Project (AHIP) in Kano, Nigeria from 2004-2009. He is an Ambassador for peace, a conflict resolutionist, a mediator and a mentor. He has participated in the Basketball 4 Peace program sponsored by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in areas affected by religious conflicts and riots while in Kano, Nigeria. In order for these positive experiences to be passed on to other youth, Harry developed HarryCares as a way to give back to the community and to the people who provided these opportunities which he continues to experience and benefit from.

To add to his experience, Harry worked with youth living with Autism Spectrum Disorder by sharing his experiences as a Camp Counselor and also engaging in the everyday lives of these youth as part of a Co-op work term, and helped to fund raise for Cystic Fibrosis and Special Olympics Canada while completing his university degree in Canada. Harry also co-founded “Just Believe,” a Youth Mentor-ship Organization focused on affecting positive influence and change in the youth of the Halifax community. Harry has continued to develop his own story through a framework of various community outreach programs and events and continues the newest chapter of his professional life in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
